Don Wreford

Don is a free form art glass blower with his studio based in Daylesford, Victoria.

Working with hot glass, one becomes aware of the inherent nature of viscosity and resistance.  Although Don may have a vision of a works out come, glass can be an unpredictable art form.  A piece may transform into the unexpected and a crucial factor in hot glass is timing.  The challenge of immediacy requires prompt decision making in creating and evolving new techniques and possibilities.

After working for three decades in blown glass, Don moved into the direction of blown crushed glass which is then fused in a kiln.  This gives a granular and matte finish unlike blown glass, yet still maintaining a quirky and distinctive individuality that collectors highly desire.

The pieces exhibited at MASTERWORKS 2009 are from Don’s final collection.
