Born in Hobart, Tasmania, Jan studied graphic art at Hobart Technical College. On completion she moved to Victoria and studied Fine Art from 1972 – 1975.
The predominant medium used between 1981-1989 was watercolour. This spontaneous method of recording was used during Jan’s first overseas trip to Italy and Greece in 1989. On returning to Australia, image making commenced using Collage; canvas, gold leaf, fly-wire along with found objects.
1994 brought a second overseas trip, this time to U.S.A., U.K. and Europe, visiting their galleries. Photographs were taken as a reference and an accurate method of recording information of interest.
Since 1997 many commissions have been completed, public and private. A new Carlton studio provided high visibility. During this time some thirty images were reproduced as Giclee Prints.
In 2007 a high quality, hard cover book was produced of paintings between 2002 – 2007. Jan regularly exhibits in Australia and overseas. In 2002, a purpose-fitted gallery/studio was established at Clifton Hill. The space provides a new and exciting venue for interaction between public and artist.
