Jane Hall’s art process has developed from the early days of Lithography and etching to 4 years research in Japan in papermaking and printmaking. The repetitious nature of producing editions and a belief that one print is enough led Jane to the offset monotype.
The works are made as an exploration of colour as a representation of human emotion and production of form as visual metaphor for relations between people or aspects of self. Works are produced building layers which cover yet reveal. The work is made in series which explore journeys emanating from the provocation, and apparent juxtaposition, of ‘Dark Luminance’.
On one level the work is pure abstraction exploring colour and formalist ideas. Then on another level it expands to play with colour as a way to speak directly to the heart or to resonate with the viewer about pure emotion. In simple terms we associate colour in language such as: seeing red, green with envy or feeling blue.
