Born and raised in Israel, Noam Gonnen is a rare kind of artist in his homeland – an artist dedicating all his creation to nature. In his body of work, which gains more and more recognition, he explores the deep relationship between man and nature. In the recent year he focuses his work in a small wooded area called Ilanot Forest, a eucalyptus forest planted in the 1950’s. In Ilanot he also established, along with other fellow artists, a big interdisciplinary art centre called ‘Dream Lodge’, where he also teaches and gives lectures on his unique approach.
“My artwork deals with nature: the active forces within nature, its greatness and ‘suchness’, the process and motion of things, both physical and metaphysical, the different states of being. It is these things which I dedicate my life and creation to. I paint most of my painting outdoors, in nature. I paint using my ears and nose as well as my eyes. I don’t aspire to the new and sophisticated: I just strive to paint nature with the deepest love and respect.”
