Silvi Glattauer

Silvi is a photographer and printmaker living and working in Nillumbik with a photographic practice that extends from commercial, editorial to fine art photography.

‘Objective Archives’, shown at the 2009 MASTERWORKS, is a collection of found botanicals from places declared as National Parks. These images are intended to be read as narratives. A storyboard of time and place which may or may not survive.

In the tradition of scientific cataloging, this systematic repetitive format invites us to detach from an emotional response of the beautiful landscapes these objects represent. Therefore giving us an objective perspective on environmental challenges.

Silvi works and teaches at The Baldessin Press, a unique bluestone etching studio in the bush setting of St Andrews, Victoria. Within Australia, The Baldessin Press stands alone in the specialisation of Photogravure printmaking, having been introduced by Silvi in 2002.
