Petra Reece

Petra has been painting, drawing and printmaking most of her life and now makes her living as a full time artist.  Her themes range from working on commissioned portraits, landscapes (mainly seascapes) figure paintings and still life.  Her designs for stained glass windows are found in many churches and colleges throughout Australia. Petra’s works are in the Castlemaine Regional Gallery and the Shire of Nillumbik.

“I source a lot of my ideas from old black and white photos. I find them to have both an innocent and poignant quality.  The painting called ‘Approaching Storm II’ is taken from an old slide. I changed the feel and mood of the picture by having a low horizon and rolling dark clouds forming above a turbulent sea”.
