Riza Manalo

Riza received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of the Philippines. Having had to constantly move as she was growing up, Riza uses her life’s experience as reference in her work to tell the stories of her many journeys. While she was living in New York she experimented on various media and explored the issue of isolation and migration across borders in her work. Her video ‘Homebound’ has won three International awards for best experimental film. In her recent paintings she was inspired by the migrant birds of New Zealand; like the birds she is always moving and gathering ideas in one place and passing them on in another.

Riza has been exhibiting since 1994. Her work has been shown in many exhibitions and film festivals in the Philippines and abroad.  She now lives and works in Melbourne.
