Wendy is inspired by the austere beauty of rugged Australian landscapes and her field drawings are further developed in the studio. These are transformed into translucent, relief images within the Southern Ice porcelain vessels. The process involves a laborious technique using shellac and water to leave an etched surface, which creates multiple, sculptural and translucent layers.
The pieces are further enlivened by illumination, whether transient or electric, to form a tonally rendered image. “The translucency of porcelain makes my breath catch; its purity, and its paradoxical fragility and strength”. These porcelain vessels are unpretentious in form, a perfect canvas for the translucent imagery.
Wendy’s experience as a visual artist spans over twenty years. She specialises in ceramics and painting, and has begun to work on architectural sculptural pieces. She has exhibited nationally, and her work is held in private collections. She has also completed several corporate commissions.
