Kate is an Eltham artist specialising in limited edition linocuts. She trained in textile design at Central School of Art & Design, London and worked freelance for six years before migrating to Australia in 1990.
Kate uses objects from around the house and plants in the garden as a design source and is influenced by her textile training and a love of oriental art.
There are many stages in making a print. First the idea, maybe some flowers that are a beautiful colour or shape. These are arranged into a still life and a drawing made to use as the design for the print. The drawing is transferred onto a block of lino and carved out. Then the actual printing when you see the image come to life. Kate does her printing at the Australian Print Workshop in Fitzroy on a wonderful old 1888 Albion printing press.
