Tatiana is a ceramic artist with a background in nuclear engineering. Although at first glance these two career paths seem very dissimilar, she has been able to utilise many engineering concepts in the design and construction of her pieces. Her work is Neo-Constructivist in style, inspired by two great artists from her original homeland, the Ukraine: the Suprematist painter/sculptor Kasimir Malevich (1878 – 1935), and the Constructivist sculptor Vladimir Tatlin (1895 – 1956). At present her sculptures are domestic in scale and fall into two groups: wall sculptures and free-standing pieces.
Tatiana is intrigued by the timeless elegance of pure geometry, and its expressive possibilities. Although some people may see her work as somewhat austere or sombre, what she is really trying to do is develop an elemental ‘language’ of more or less pure geometric forms through which she can express her ideas and feelings about life, art and existence.
